STUDIO LAYOUT

Studios generally consist of the same basic areas: a control room, a live room, a keyboard room, an amp room, and one or more vocal booths. Hover on the floor plan below to find out about each room.

LIVE ROOM

A room specifically made for recording instruments. It has sound-deadening qualities to avoid reflections and allow the sound to travel directly to the microphones.

AMP ROOM

A room where amplifier output can be recorded, removing the risk of feedback and unwanted instrument noises (e.g musician tapping on a guitar).

VOCAL BOOTH

A separate, isolated room also known as a 'dead room', for recording main vocals and backing vocals that will be layered on top of an instrumental track. Also used to record dialogue for ADR. Small room size to prevent reflections, along with the same sound-deadening qualities as a live room.

PIANO ROOM

The keyboard is located here as it is a computer instead of an instrument, and it can be plugged in directly to the control room to input MIDI data.

CONTROL ROOM

A room where all the microphone inputs from each room connect to a console or soundboard, which allows sound to be adjusted live.
